Christmas Toy Rage

Christmas 2006

How many of you get into the Holiday toy rage? Are you always scoping out the must have toy? These are some of the toys that are hot commodities this Christmas. Every year it is something, isn't it? I think we are gonna just buy the kids one big toy they want and then they will get clothing and other stuff they need. We also always try to buy a new family Christmas movie to add to our collection. I just don't want my kids wrapped totally in the commercialism. In fact everything Kiarrah sees on Tv she wants. Doesn't even matter what it is. How do you all handle Christmas?

One way we've cut way down on "the gimmes" is to get rid of our television subscription.

We don't have cable, satellite or off-the-air TV, so our daughter can't watch the afternoon children's programming and start saying, "I want this, I want that..."

Of course it doesn't stop her from wanting big things she sees other people using. She wants her own cell phone and iPod (because we have these things) but the answer is no because she's not mature enough for such expensive toys.

The other thing we noticed, once we got rid of the television subscription, is that we seem to have a lot more time to do other things...

We keep gift giving simple at our house and we ask that grandparents do the same. It has cut back greatly on toys and has simplified our Christmas. We spend more time doing more meaningful things rather than unwrapping and playing with mountains of toys.

Your daughter has grown so much since I last checked your blog. She's beautiful, as are your older 3.

And I love coming here to just listen...you always have the greatest song playing! I feel uplifted!

I know what you mean. So far Derek hasn't asked for much except for some new games for his Vsmile and a few new board games. We're gonna try to stay away from too many toys this year.... Cerah is getting a big girl bed and nedding :) Oh my I can't believe I just said that :(

The kids are too cute and growing too quick..
Have a great day

Hello, I know it has been awhile, twins are keeping me busy and now they are trying to walk. Will be 1 in 23days. Christopher is counting down. Very happy about that.
We have Christopher pick out 6 toys from Santa. Big or small but, only 6, then he has to pick out 6 or so of his old toys and pass them on to boys who need them. Family (other than grandma, she doesn't always listen) have to give them cash and someone gets him a new movie, This way he has money for the furture. He is saving to buy a truck. At least he will be able to pay for part of it in cash by then. Now we add 2 more boys to the mix. It will get harder. Childeren all look great. Gracie is alittle of both of you. Hope you are well.Someday will be back on my blog. We have sports almost every night and he now is in CCD. BUSY. Audra

We ask that grandparents cut back, but to no avail. They just can't help themselves, but we will keep asking... The first Christmas here (ny a couple weeks after w got back) was so difficult for me. The kids had SO MANY toys that it was overwhelming. I had just gotten back from Kazakhstan and I felt even almost shameful to be bringing home that many gifts. We have made giving back a part of our Christmas each year. I want the kids to grow up knowing the importance. I haven't found the right charity yet (although 1,000 wonderful ones). As far as us, we usually get the kids one bigger things and then about 4 others toys. We know they will get so many from grandparents. We also try and gather toys we aren't playing with aymore to donate.

By the way, if you are looking for any of the above toys on your blog, I've seen them all here (Ernie i low numbers) I could always send you one if you need be!
